La Puerta's Admission Process
Now Enrolling for the 2012-2013 School Year!
La Puerta is on a rolling admissions process. We accept applications on a first come, first serve basis until we have reached our classroom capacity. Once we have reached our capacity, all incoming applicants will be placed on a waiting list.
Applications are now available for you to download or call the school office at (505) 685-0006 to request an application to be mailed to you.
The Application Process
Admission to La Puerta School for the Arts, Sciences and Agriculture is a “rolling admissions” process. This means that families are interviewed and decisions made for the upcoming school year as completed applications are received at the school. Therefore, it is recommended that interested families begin the application process upon receipt of admissions material.
1. Submit a completed application form and a non-refundable $25 application fee to the school (Make check payable to La Puerta School). Please make sure to answer all questions on the form as completely and fully as possible. Note: We will not process an application without the fee payment.
Please mail your completed application and fee to:

2. Arrange with your child’s current school to send copies of your child’s progress reports, report card, and short-cycle assessments/standardized test results (if available) to our school office by using the attached Request for Records form.
3. Once we have received your application and fee we will call you to schedule an interview. The interview provides an opportunity for families – parents/guardians and students - to visit the school and to discuss La Puerta’s mission, curriculum and philosophy as it relates to your child’s unique talents, special interests and learning style.
4. Once your child has been accepted a $275 non-refundable materials and insurance fee will need to be paid and a Tuition and Enrollment Agreement signed. All fees and tuition are listed in the Tuition and Fee Schedule. Tuition assistance may be available for those who apply and qualify. Financial Aid Policy.
Considerations for admission:
- Resources available to meet the educational needs of the applicant
- Family willingness to participate in child’s educational journey
- Giving priority to children of staff members
- Giving priority to siblings of students who are currently attending La Puerta

Applying for Financial Aid On-Line:
We have contracted with School & Student Services (SSS) through the National Association of Independent School (NAIS) to collect all required financial aid documentation. Click the logo below to access the webpage where you can begin your on-line application.

We understand and appreciate the financial commitment families undertake in deciding to send their children to La Puerta School. And although paying for education is first and foremost the responsibility of a family, we do our best to seek out funds to help our families. In turn, our school community benefits by attracting gifted students that otherwise would not have been able to attend. To help us objectively assess what a family is able to contribute to its child(ren) education expenses, we use School and Student Services (SSS By NAIS) as a trusted third party. The SSS analysis of a family's "Estimated Family Contribution (EFC)" is a critical component of our financial aid decision. However, it is just a start. To make our final financial aid award decisions, we use the SSS figures as the baseline for our own additional review, taking into consideration our total financial aid budget, other information we may have collected, our school’s policies and priorities, and the needs of our entire applicant pool. Due to circumstances like these, and others, our school may ask your family to contribute more or less to tuition than what is estimated on the SSS Family Report.
Please contact the school office at 685-0006 with any questions you may have about applying for financial assistance.
